THEMES

When studying a media text, theme is a main idea or topic that  is highlighted or addressed .

Character's situations or  behaviours are used to analyse them. They're also  highlighted in the story and settings at important moments.

  • Commitment
  • spiritual love
  • Tragic Love

-Religion
-Death
-Power

-Paranoia
-Revenge

Are there any unifying qualities among these themes ? Can you think of any other themes common in Thriller Films?

Yes , they symbolise  horror thriller .  Yes I can and  the one I can think of is Bird box.
Theme presented: death,mysterie

Gone Girl Thriller
  • Murder
  • Death
  • Fear
  • Isolation
  • Disappearance
  • Violence
  • Betrayal
  • Mysteries

By watching Gone Girl I have emphasis 3 different themes and those are:  Death , Fear , Mysteries.

Theme 1: The reason why I'm saying mystery is because at the beginning on Amy and Nick  wedding anniversary
Nike returns home looking for his wife and he couldn't find her anywhere this then create   sense of mystery as it make audience questing by not getting any answer.
This gives me the idea   to actually  do something smiler   as I would want to create enigma more than action.

Theme2 :
Another Theme I  can suggest from watching this trailer  is death. The reason why I'm saying so is  because it shows a character getting killed in a car explosion . From this we can emphasis the theme of death .As it also then present a  shot of a funeral taking place, which from that we can emphasis someone lost their life.

Theme3:
Another theme   that i can suggest from watching  this movie is  fear . Fear is seen when Army  was missing this create sense of fear as it makes us wonder what is about to happen  to her as she is missing and  people don't know where she is . This also make people think and wonder if is death because she is missing. Having death and fear in a thriller makes the movie so  special as it create suspense just like this movie does .

Bird BOX

The theme for ' Birdbox': Fear, suicide and mysteries .

Theme 1:

The  thriller start of with a  pregnant  women called Malorie  and her cousin  called Jess .  Malorine and Jess where  in Dr Lamph  office for a ultrasound scan. On their way out of the office , Malorine  and Jess notice a woman they passed earlier on  acting erratic and banging her head against the glass window .This then create a Thriller for the audience as it makes them  scared  and   frightened but also have a type of knowledge , right at the beginning as Thriller normally  doesn't start with tragedy.

Theme:2 This is when her and the cousin start to fear and wonder what was affecting people in Europe and Siberia has now arrived in America . They then run outside  just as the chaos is  happening , with people crashing their cars in the street . Jess then  drives Malorine away, but not longer after, Jess's eyes turn a weird colour as she start to appear frightened by something only she can see  . This then create mystery  for the audience as they don't show what exactly is killing this people.

Theme3:  She drives frantically, with Malorine trying to keep her on the road , but jess flips the car and crashes . they survive , but Jess is still under a trance , and Malorine can only watch as her sister steps in front of a truck . This then makes the audience emphasis the suicide thoughts.

For the Thriller I will be creating and exploring, I will analysing  the theme of mystery.   The first step that I   would be taking inconsideration is  to make sure audience feel the theme of fear in order to feel the theme of mystery and that will be to make sure that I present the scene where the  team was together and sadly one dies . I personally thing that me showing the theme of mystery  is very effective as it make the audience feel scared as they don't know what's actually killing the people.
